What the three tools do, what they need, and where they stop.

Connecting

The server is a remote MCP server, streamable HTTP, at https://thenewengineer.com/mcp — no account, no key, no authentication. In Claude: Settings, Connectors, Add custom connector, paste the address. The first time, Claude asks permission to use the tool: choose Always allow.

Three tools are served. All three only compute: they read nothing of yours, write nothing, and change nothing.

The three tools

size_expansion_vessel

Sizes the expansion vessel and pressurisation of a closed heating or chilled-water circuit to EN 12828, following the IMI Pneumatex method: static height, p0, pa, pe, expansion volume, water reserve, nominal vessel volume with the standard size to buy, safety valve setting and its minimum, pressure class of the lowest equipment. Needs the water volume and three heights, all measured from the point where the vessel connects to the circuit.

check_refrigerant_switzerland

Says whether a refrigerant may still be placed on the Swiss market and refilled, and until when, under ORRChim annex 2.10 — with the fluid's data from EN 378-1 Annex E: GWP, ODP, LFL, safety class, practical limit. The answer depends on the use, the capacity and the type of installation; the tool asks for what is missing rather than assume it.

check_en378_zones

Applies EN 378 to a building project, volume by volume: the plant room, the rooms crossed by refrigerant lines, the rooms served. Each volume gets its access category and location class, its charge limit from Tables C.1 and C.2 with formula C.2 computed where the table calls for it, the EN 378-3 measures that follow, the applicable texts and the ventilation flow rates.

Scope and limits

Building services: heating, air conditioning, building cooling, process cooling including data centres. Cold rooms, food refrigeration and deep freezing are a different trade: the tools say so rather than answer.

The regulation tool is Swiss only. EN 378 applies wherever the standard applies; stricter national rules prevail.

Every result carries its formula and the assumptions it rests on. Nothing is invented: when a figure is missing, the tool returns the question to ask. The engineer remains responsible for the design.
